Constitution Day is celebrated on September 17th. Previously known as Citizenship Day until 2004, Constitution Day commemorates when the US Constitution was signed and adopted on September 17th 1787.1
The purpose was to celebrate citizenship and freedom for all Americans. Constitution Day honors the Constitution, which guarantees all Americans their fundamental rights. Since its inception, the Constitution is the basis of all laws in the United States.2
The Constitution distributed power between the three branches of the government. It also outlines the powers of the government and the limitations, the rights of American citizens, and the amendment process in case there is a need to make changes in the future.3
